Job summary

Translate concepts and specifications into workable solutions using the company’s preferred technologies and implement effectively and efficiently; ensure consistent and coherent approach to software development; general maintenance and bug fixing. Be a subject matter expert within your area of specialism and support other developers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Roles & responsibility

• Develop, test, package and deploy software using the company’s preferable technologies in an Agile Scrum environment.
• Develop database schemas for databases.
• Develop and maintain stored procedures.
• Develop and maintain ETL packages and streaming services for high-performance data transformation and ingestion.
• Develop and maintain Cubes
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and resolve bugs.
• Work within the established methodology, ensuring correct use of ticketing systems, source control tools and QA processes.
• Incorporate appropriate instrumentation, logging and monitoring such that solutions are operable, maintainable and supportable.
• Engage with subject matter experts to ensure your work complies with best practises and established designed patterns.
• Be accountable for the quality, performance and security of the work you deliver.
• Actively collaborate with piers and engage in team working.
• Maintain and develop your development skills and knowledge in all areas relevant to the foreseeable needs of the business.

Key requirements

Technical / functional expertise – General

• Solid (5+ years) experience of collaborative software development using modern technologies to deliver enterprise class solutions.
• A thorough understanding of source control, CI/CD automation, software testing and debugging.
• A thorough understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
• Familiar with the concept of streaming, containerisation and micro service architectures.
• A keenness to work on and develop personally in areas of the software development outside of your area of specialism.
• A willingness to ensure your work complies with Rakuten Marketing’s Definition of Done now and as it evolves in the future including but not limited to the need to document, test, instrument and package your code.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Microsoft server operating systems.
• Solid understanding of Git source control and branching strategies.
• Excellent communications and collaborative skills.
• Experience in the Digital Marketing industry.

Technical / functional expertise – Specialism

• Experience of big data tools, techniques and technologies including Golang, Spark Streaming, Hbase & Hive and Cloudera or Hortonworks.
• Experience or knowledge of the following would be beneficial: Vertica, Postgres, Kafka, Impala, IcCube, Circle CI.
• An expert understanding of relational database theory and practice
• Experienced at delivering high-performance database applications with MS SQL Server including SSIS.
• Experienced at database performance tuning and the use of associated instrumentation, tools and strategies for diagnosis.
